The dread drain clog: Every homeowner’s worst fear. Your drains are constantly in use, whether you shower, wash your hands, or brush your teeth, and when they’re used frequently like that, it may be disheartening to see them slowing down owing to a block.
Clogged drains are not only inconvenient, but they may also be unsightly and costly to repair if ignored. However, before you get too worried, here are some drain cleaning methods that might assist you:
Remove the Plunger
Remove the plunger from the drain. The simplest approach to attack, and where to begin, is with your trusty plunger. Sometimes all it takes is forcing some air and strong suction down the drain to loosen the blockage enough for water to flow normally again.
Boiling Water
Pour boiling water down the drain. Fill a pan with water and bring to a full boil. Pour the water down your sink little by little, giving it a few seconds to work its magic before pouring again when it’s done.
Soda and Vinegar
Make a paste with baking soda and vinegar. Combine 1/3 cup baking soda with 1/3 cup vinegar, then pour it down the sink while it’s fizzing. The chemical reaction that occurs as a result of the bubbling may help clear the obstruction. This combination of ingredients works well for breaking up clogs, so leave it to soak for at least an hour. After enough time has passed, flush it all out using hot water.
Bent Wire Hanger
Make a hook from a bent wire hanger. Your wire coat hangers can also function as a plumbing instrument, according to some people! Take your straightened out the hanger and bend one end so that it looks like a hook. Send down your hook and begin pulling up all of the debris clogging your drain – hair, gunk, etc. When you’re confident that you’ve removed everything blocking your drain, fill it with boiling water.
Toilet Bombing
To combat stubborn clogs, make toilet bombs with just a few simple ingredients: 2 cups baking soda, ΒΌ cup Epsom salt, and 9 tablespoons liquid dish detergent. Start by lining a muffin tin with muffin liners. Combine the baking soda and Epsom salt in a bowl and stir in one teaspoon at a time of the detergent. Allow the mixture to dry for 24 hours in the muffin liners. Remove a bomb from its liner and put it in your toilet, along with five cups of hot water, when you have a clog. Allow four hours to pass before flushing away the blockage!
Plumber’s Snake
Reach for the snake. It isn’t a real snake! A plumber’s snake may be utilized to reach deep down into your sink to remove and dislodge the clog source.
No Drain Cleaner
Remove the drain cleaner. Whatever you do, avoid using chemical drain cleaners! Sure, they make some attractive claims on those bottles, but the chemicals inside can corrode your pipes in the long run, causing even bigger problems down the road.
Call a Friend
Sometimes a clogged drain is simply too difficult for even the most experienced DIYer to manage. When that happens, it’s time to call in the experts.
Clogs are difficult to deal with, and if left unattended, they can lead to more serious problems down the road. Because slow-draining water has the ability to cause long-term damage to your home’s plumbing components, you should endeavour to clear any blockages as soon as possible.
